Technology in the Classroom
As a result of this class I can only say that I know there is alot of software out there that can be used in the classroom. Personally I do not think I have had much growth in this class. We talked about so many different programs but did not have a chance to really go into depth about them. I guess exposure is good but then we have to try to learn it on our own. I have a tough time learning computer software on my own. I prefer a more hands on environment. It becomes very frustrating trying to navigate through something I know nothing about. Some of the more simple programs like Wikis or google docs are fine, but when it comes to something like smart notebook, it is just too large to be just exposed to. I had hoped to learn much more in depth about smart notebook so I could be proficient at it for student teaching. Since the job market is tough, We as future teachers, need every advantage we could get.Our group worked well together so not too much to talk about here. All are work was done on time and never really worried about it. I don't stress group work at all.

I feel the same way. I wish we had talked about certain topics more in depth, such as SMART Board. I mean I had no idea any of these programs existed so it's good that I found out about a lot of them but I wish we had gone into more detail about a few of them.
ReplyDeleteMike- I have to agree with you 100%. Rather than just be exposed to a large number of online applications, I would rather have been taught a few of these in depth. SMARTboard is one technology that I feel we should really have gone quite a bit in depth with. We really did not cover much with it, and in a few of the times we did, technical difficulties were present. In the future I know I will be using this technology, and it would have been nice to have a solid understanding of it. Despite creating a SMART lesson, I feel I do not know much about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you as well. I would have benefited more from learning more about less, if that makes sense. If the long list of different software was condensed into one that included programs that would be used most, that would've been great! I feel overwhelmed by all that was taught rather than excited to implement any of it in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteI think that it was definitely a lot to cover, but I think the exposure to the software that it available out there was a good thing. I think that a lot of it is teaching yourself to become proficient in these programs. At least for me, I learn better by playing around with them and figuring it out for myself. I agree with you that it would have been better to go more in depth with larger software programs like SMART Notebook because it is a lot to try and understand.
ReplyDeleteI think that the SmartBoard should have been the most important and fundamental part of this class. Schools are are continually aquiring them and it is important that we know how to use them, and to be proficient with them. We should have spent a significant amount of time with SmartNotebook in class instead of being expected to figure it out for our units. That being said, I enjoyed being exposed to all the other technologies and it was okay that we did not go into alot of depth, but the SmartBoard is an essential technology to learn.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree it would have been nice to learn Smart Notebook more. However, I think I'll end up figuring it out during student teaching pretty quickly. As cool as the program is, at this point I don't think I like it enough to make it the center of my classroom either. Maybe if I was teaching 5th graders I would think differently
